CIVIL ENGINEERING DESIGN + INFRASTRUCTURE + ENERGY

0.5MW Epe Interconnected Mini-Grid

Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria      2025          Land Size-10,00 sqm

Aerial view of a construction site with overlays of topographic lines and slope direction markers in yellow, showing contour lines, scale measurements, and slope directions.

In 2025, IHOD was appointed to design the stormwater drainage system for the Epe Solar Farm, engineering a comprehensive surface water management strategy to protect the site’s critical infrastructure and facilities against erosion and hydraulic damage, delivered within a focused one month programme.

Solar panels installed on a dirt ground in an open area, with small buildings and lamp posts in the background under a blue sky.

Engineering the Solution

In response, IHOD engineered a reinforced perimeter drainage network, 600mm deep by 450mm wide, precisely dimensioned to intercept high velocity surface flow before it could threaten the solar arrays and supporting infrastructure. Integrated energy dissipation structures and erosion protection at every outfall ensure the system performs not just on paper, but season after season. The completed design was validated against the site’s full hydraulic demand and delivered to the client in December 2025, on time, within a focused one month program.

Multiple rows of solar panels installed on the ground under a cloudy sky.

Where Precision Meets the Landscape

Confronted with a 10,800 sqm site falling at gradients of up to 12 percent in every direction, IHOD approached the challenge with the rigor of precision hydrology. Detailed hydrological modelling of the site’s stormwater behaviour revealed peak discharges of 0.25 cubic metres per second under design storm conditions, with seasonal runoff exceeding 11,000 cubic metres across Epe’s intense rainy season, among the heaviest rainfall belts in Nigeria.
